how ironic

Just a day after I wrote about badminton, my aunt discouraged me to pursue it. =(

"Wala kang mapapala sa pagbabadminton mo", "Sayang lang ang mga Sabado mo, mag-aral ka na lang ulet".

Those were her comments. In fairness, she's not mad or anything. I understood why she's able to say those. Unfortunately, she can't understand how the sport means to me. I didn't dare to air my side (yet).

I plan on pursuing further studies next year. "Bahala na si Batman! hehehe"

My Athletic Life c",)

My tatay played basketball in his younger years. My brother was a volleyball varsity player in high school. He even played softball when he was younger. At home, we'd watch PBA altogether, all rooting for Anejo/Ginebra.

In my elementary days, I had a one-time stint in track & field. And I learned how to play volleyball in high school. It became my fave sport since then. I wasn't a varsity player but I played good enough (most probably because of my height advantage).

In my junior year in high school, me and my cousin usually started to play badminton in their garden. One time's unforgettable 'coz I got into an accident while playing with her. I stumbled and my right shin hit a very large stepping stone and left a big scar. Because of badminton, my skin's not flawless anymore...hahahaha.

That's my history of playing the sport. I got to take hold of a badminton racket again some two years back (many years since the "accident" in my cousin's garden). This was when I decided to join my officemates who often played at the Camp Aguinaldo courts at that time. It's something really new for someone who only played the sport on the roads/gardens. I had no idea of its rules and regulations. I remember liking this sport that I got myself my own steel racket, a Wilson two-piece. But it was an on-off thing for us, depending on our sched. It even came to a point where we didn't play for months.

On November 2003, I got the chance to play with some high school friends. We frequented the Marikina Sports Center at least once a week. Our warm-up exercise would be running/jogging/racing around the track, trying to beat each other's number of laps.

From the tiled courts of the Sports Center, someone invited us to play at the Greenpark Badminton Center (my first taste of the so-called badminton courts) wherein the courts were rubberized cements. It was there I got to go against advance-levelled players. And with the prodding and/or encouragement of my friend, I bought myself a more decent badminton racket. A Carlton Airblade 500. I was alone when I bought it. I think I bought it because of its free bag. c",) And because of this investment, I started to take this sport a little more seriously. Another reason why I decided to take this seriously is because of health. My family's known for being diabetic. I've known how it's like and I'm determined (hoping against hope) to avoid it. And playing badminton's the best way I thought of.

How I am right now as a badminton player, I owe it mainly to my friends. To their constant reminders and patience in pointing out to their "very stubborn" friend (that'd be me) the things that should be done in (and out) the badminton courts. It'd be more than a year now since I've taken this sport seriously. As in playing at least once a week, trying to learn the basics from the others (not to mention from the games shown on television).

I must say playing badminton is now a very important part of my life. It's more than a hobby. It's a therapy. A diversion. An addiction. Etc etc...

I just hope and pray I'll be able to play this sport even if I'm old and gray. How wonderful it would be if I can play it with my kids and grandkids...c",)

*sigh*

I'm daydreaming again...hehehe

Oh, brother...

While I was having dinner last night, we're watching the 'teleserye' entitled "Mga Anghel na Walang Langit".

I was holding back my tears while eating 'coz I didn't want them to see me crying for they'll surely laugh at me. What got into me? Well, the episode last night was about Jeboy, a streetkid, who's looking for his younger sister Gigi. It's his birthday and he can't help but reminisce the past years where he spent it with her. He even made a birthday wish that they would both get to spend each birthday together. Unfortunately, last night's the first time that wish wouldn't come true. Even Gigi, who has been adopted, can't help but think and dream of her Kuya Jeboy. She even bought a gift for him even without knowing where he is.

Well, the story reminded me of my Kuya. There was a time in our lives that we're starting to get close with each other. We'd watch movies and/or eat out together. But, I got depressed when things turned around. I can't really describe the feeling, but, it surely hurt a lot.

There'll be times that I'd hate him, and there'll be times that I'd miss him.

I'm sorry, if it seemed that all I've written here were sad stories. I'm hoping that very soon, I'll come up with one which is in a happier note.

I'm still good. c",)

Who am I?

I'm already in my late twenties, but, still living with my aunt's family. Why? 'Coz I'm afraid of living alone. I'm the only one who's unmarried amongst 3 siblings. Both of them have their own families and sadly, I have to say that I'm closer with my cousins and friends than the two of them. I'm partly at fault 'coz I kinda chose a life apart from them. Not that I didn't try otherwise, though. Let's just say that there were certain events in our lives that led me away.

And it's undeniable that I consider most of my friends my family. They are mostly my long-time friends (since I was 13) and there are some that I just met a few years back.

My faults include being so sensitive and possessive of those people who are close to me. There's also my tendency of being over-protective of them. Oftentimes forgetting that they're already grown-up and could be more matured than me. I'm so greatful of them for accepting me and these faults that I've just mentioned. There are still more and I'm still trying to overcome/correct them. Of course, with a 'little' help from my friends.

Lately, I came up with the best way to describe myself: SIMPLY COMPLICATED. I may look or project to be a very simple person, but, I can indeed be a complicated one. I wouldn't dare to explain how that happened 'cause I myself couldn't understand it most of the time.

And there's a song that best fit me! Try to listen to Matchbox 20's song Unwell (especially the Chorus part) and you'll somehow have a grasp of my personality. c",)

This is how I can answer the question 'who am I?'. If you'll ask some of my friends, I'm sure they'll basically have the same answer as mine. Ü
